Accessibility Statement
Last reviewed: November 6, 2026
I want everyone to be able to browse this work and get in touch, whatever device, browser or assistive technology they use. This statement covers jyoungdesigns.com.
The standard I aim for
The site is designed to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.
What’s built in
- Keyboard access. Everything works without a mouse: the menus, search, image viewer, Creations carousel, Explore theme picker and contact form. A “Skip to content” link appears on the first Tab press.
- Shortcuts. Press / (or Ctrl+K / Cmd+K) to open search. Use the arrow keys to move through search results and the image viewer, and Esc to close them.
- Visible focus. A clear outline shows where you are on the page as you tab through it.
- Pause motion. The scrolling image wall on the homepage has a Pause motion button that stops all scrolling and automatic image changes. If your device is set to reduce motion, the site starts with motion paused. The site remembers your choice.
- No dragging required. Anything you can drag or swipe, such as the carousel and the image strip, also has arrow buttons.
- Light and dark mode. A toggle in the header switches between them, and the site remembers your choice.
- Contrast. Text meets WCAG AA contrast in both modes: at least 4.5:1 for regular text, and at least 3:1 for form field borders and large text.
- Text alternatives. Every artwork image has a text alternative with the piece’s name and type. The image viewer also shows a written caption for each piece. Decorative images and icons are hidden from screen readers.
- Structure. Pages use proper headings, landmarks (header, navigation, main content, footer) and labeled buttons, so screen readers and other assistive technology can find their way around.
- Zoom and small screens. Content reflows without sideways scrolling at 400% zoom and on phones.
- Forms. Every contact form field has a visible label. Required fields are marked, and error messages explain what to fix and are announced to screen readers.
- Updates announced. Changes like the number of search results or the number of pieces after filtering are announced to screen readers.
- No surprises. There is no autoplaying audio or video and no flashing content.
Known limitations
- Artwork descriptions. Text alternatives name each piece and its type, and captions add some detail, but they can’t describe every visual detail of a drawing. If you’d like a fuller description of any piece, ask and I’ll write one.
- Third-party tools. Some parts come from other companies: the Cloudflare Turnstile check on the contact form, the CookieYes cookie banner and Google’s services. I chose tools that support accessibility, but I don’t control how they work. If the Turnstile check stops you from sending a message, email me directly at [Contact email].
- Social media. Links to Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and DeviantArt lead to those sites, which have their own accessibility features and limits.
